Mailing Your Taxes

You can mail your taxes, even on the due date as long as they are post-marked with the due date. Otherwise, they will be sent back to you. If you want a receipted copy send a self-addressed stamped envelope with your portion enclosed and it will be stamped and returned to you.

When paying by mail, US Postmark determines the date payment was made in our office. Check date is not used. Any payment made on December 15, 2007 or after must be paid with a certified check, money order or cashiers check. Any bills not paid by December 31, 2007 will be turned over for collection.

Additional Information

Address Changes
It is the taxpayers responsibility to submit address changes to the tax collector.

Real Estate Taxes in Escrow Account
If your taxes are escrowed into your mortgage payment, YOU must forward the TAX BILL to the mortgage company. The Tax Collector DOES NOT forward Tax Bills to mortgage companies. For a VALIDATED RECEIPT, please send the ENTIRE BILL with a SELF-ADDRESSED STAMPED envelope. There will be a $20.00 charge for any returned checks.

Per Capita Tax

Any person 18 years of age or older must pay per capita taxes. It is your responsibily to notify the tax collector if someone is living in your house and does not receive a per capita tax. Please call the Tax Collector.

All exoneration requests must be mailed received by December 31, 2007. Requests after December 31, 2007 will not be considered for exhoneration.

Taxpayer Responsibity
It is clearly the taxpayers responsibility to ensure they are providing the tax collector with the correct payment for the tax invoices. When the payment is incorrect, the tax collector should return the payment to the taxpayer indicating the check is not the correct amount and that they must resubmit payment for the proper amount. It is not the tax collectors responsibility nor is the tax collector required to attempt to determine what the taxpayers intention are, or to accept partial or incomplete payments for any tax invoice. This is most difficult when a taxpayer pays an incorrect amount near or at the end of the face period and is unable to resiolve the error until after the commencement of the penalty period. Unfortunately, the taxpayer must be required to pay the penalty amount.

How are Real Estate Tax Rates Determined?
Each year the North Codorus Township, the County Commissioners, and the Spring Grove School Board establish a tax millage. This millage, when multiplied against the assessed value of your property, results in the Face tax due. Stae law allows for a 2% discount, if paid within 60 days (Rebate) and a 10% penalty, if it is not paid within 120 days (Penalty).
